Arizona High Country at a Glance
The Arizona High Country stands in contrast to the rest of the state, offering
a unique set of attractions that cannot be found in the desert regions. Holbrook
is one of the High Country's larger cities, providing lodging, restaurants and
more for visitors to enjoy. Known as the gateway to the Petrified
Forest National Park, Holbrook has defined itself in the terms of the wild
west, with many nearby attractions recalling the pioneer era. A walking tour of
Holbrook is available for visitors to enjoy, and features a number of sites that
speak to the city's rich history. Another of the draws to this part of the state
is historic Route 66, a highway that is celebrated in film and song and has become
enmeshed in American folk lore. Show
Low is a popular destination in the High Country as well, located equidistant
from Phoenix and Tucson
and known as the commercial hub of the White Mountains.
